The HUBS Science Forum

The "Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor (HUBS)" Science Forum was held succesfully from December 1st to 4th, 2023 in Haikou, Hainan. The workshop was hosted by Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Science and Hainan University. More than 100 scientists from 25 domestic and international institutions attended the workshop. There are 42 oral presentations covering five main topics: (1) circumstellar medium and interstellar medium; (2) feedback physics (AGN, stellar, and others); (3) clusters of galaxies and large-scale structures; (4) Milky Way science; (5) High-resolution X-ray spectroscopy. Participants also joint the lively free discussion within the 4 HUBS science working groups.

Forum on Detecting Missing Baryons in the Universe

The Detecting Missing Baryons in the Universe forum was held sucessfully on July 20-21, 2023 at the International Space Science Institute-Beijing (ISSI-BJ). More than 20 experts around the world joined the forum. Baryons, challenging to detect with current missions, play an important role in the cosmic ecosystem and is a key obstacle to our understanding of the formation and evolution of galaxies. During the forum, 13 talks were presented covering obsevational, theoretical, and technical efforts being made to advance our knowledge of the baryons on the scales of galaxies and large-scale structures in the Universe. All participants are engaged in the discussion sessions on how to fill the observational gap of the baryons, to collabrate with numerical simulations, and to support the next generation of high-resolution X-ray spectroscopic missions, especially the two projects lead by China: Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor (HUBS) and DIffuse X-ray Explorer (DIXE). In addition, partcipants also discussed frontier scientific topics revolves around comis baryons, such as Fermi bubble and circumgalactic H I medium.
